We’ve all been there, every SEO at some point has created directory links. Sometimes it’s actually good to be included in some directories, especially if you’re focusing on the local SEO aspect, as “some” directories are capable of offering citations.
Gary Illyes tweeted back in September .. ‘Directories are very often not the right way to build links. Make sure you know what you’re doing & remember that there are manual actions too.’.
John Mueller also tweeted with ‘Directories? o_0’. Ha, I love John.

Does this mean you should stop building links on directories? I guess it really depends: you need to ask yourself whether or not people actually use directories, do you? I certainly don’t, I think they are just put in place to hold a ton of links to other websites, do people actually go through those links? Not sure on that one.

It sounds like Google really aren’t into webmasters building links, are all directory links considered bad now in the eyes of Google? Maybe, we’ll see.
