What Is: Homepage

The Homepage refers to the page that appears when you navigate to the root directory of your domain, in our case, the homepage for this blog would be located at https://semtuts.com. Some people may even refer to the Homepage as being an introductory page of a website and the first page you see when you enter a site, I suppose it really depends on the scenario.

If you entered a website via a deep link, let’s say you were to conduct a Google search for “scrapebox footprints” and you were to click our link in the search results, this page would be a landing page. That’s because a post of ours ranks for that phrase and not our homepage. However, if you were to search Google for SEMtuts, you would find our homepage.

Here are some example links of Homepages:

  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (only because root redirects here)

The homepage is normally the main page on the website that gives a detailed overview of what the site is about and provides links to other pages. As a last example, the homepage of the Gadget Crate website would be http://thegadgetcrate.com.
